August 19, 2015

Manhattan Beach, CA – The 2015 annual ART310 charity art auction will be held at The Point in El Segundo on Sept. 25th, to raise money for a Music Appreciation Program for Hermosa Beach students. Dr. Ron McCurdy, musician, Grammy Committee member and professor of Music/Jazz studies, Thornton School of Music at USC, will curate the music program. Dr. McCurdy and his graduate students will perform several times throughout the year to explore different musical styles and encourage student and musician engagement.

Organized by the LA25 Foundation for the Arts, ART310 is a live auction of fine art and photography by world-class artists from within and around Southern California. The event will include works donated by prominent artists, including Al Satterwhite, Tricia Strickfaden, Bo Bridges, Robert Glenn Ketchum, Brian Kingston, Lee Clarke and Lauren Frick. Many of the ART310 contributing artists have works displayed at prestigious national galleries, including LACMA, the New York Museum of Modern Art, The Smithsonian Institute’s National Portrait Gallery and the Houston Museum of Fine Art. The money raised will go to the Hermosa Beach school district to create and coordinate the music program. The LA25 Foundation for the Arts is a 501c3 non-profit created by the LA25, a network of South Bay professionals and business owners.

“ART310 is a remarkable event that brings together the community for a common purpose,” said John Capellaro, president of the LA25 Foundation for the Arts. “The artists, sponsors and guests are giving their time and money to a targeted program that will touch the lives of our community’s children in a positive way. We hope that the children might discover their imagination in a new way that inspires and affirms their creativity.”

Exposing Youth to Music and Creativity

Exposure to the Arts, immersion in the arts, opportunities to explore the arts changes the brain in positive ways. Numerous studies from leading institutions around the world agree that the benefits of arts education are considerable in facilitating an easier grasp of abstracts as are found in mathematics and engineering, improved cognition generally and perhaps most important of all: an improved awareness of relationship and empathy. Music in particular is a natural partner to mathematics, fosters imagination and touches emotions in us in unique ways. Music has been relegated to the sidelines of a basic education in recent decades. We believe that is an error that deserves our attention and financial support. The program that is being designed by Dr. Ron McCurdy for the 4th and 5th graders of Hermosa Beach will be an introduction to the art of both music and the art of listening. We believe this will spark new possibilities for our children.

Benefactors, Sponsors and Friends of the ART310 include Moon Tide Media’s Southbay magazine, Paolucci Salling & Martin Communication Arts, Chevron, Skechers, New American Funding and ErinCondren.com. The Point at El Segundo is the South Bay’s new outdoor shopping, dining and entertainment destination at the corner of Rosecrans and Sepulveda. ART310 is scheduled for Sept. 25th from 6 - 10 pm with drinks and hors d’oeuvres from the surrounding restaurants at The Point. Tickets can be purchased now at www.Art310.org.
